A fundamental shift has taken place in recent years. The collective awareness about the deep tracks that our modern lifestyle leaves behind has grown enormously. Scientists, politicians, activists and involved citizens have contributed to a new agenda for the world, summarized in the Sustainable Development Goals. Several influential authors have described a new economic path in which profitability no longer comes at the expense of people and the environment *.
The more I learn, the more strongly I feel that this is my path forward. Now, I am discovering how to use my experience in business for a greater purpose, that better fits my values and beliefs. I strive to become part of the generation of entrepreneurs that offers solutions, through trial and error, rather than to follow the easy path and wait comfortably others to do so. Yes, it is exciting, ambitious and complex. But I do not regret my decision for a second: every step ahead gives me a lot of energy. On September 12, 1962, John F. Kennedy gave an important speech, from which this quote really inspires me:
“We choose to go to the moon. We choose to go to the moon in this decade and do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard, because that goal will serve to organize and measure the best of our energies and skills, because that challenge is one that we are willing to accept, one we are unwilling to postpone, and one which we intend to win.”
